Goodbye and Welcome
THE DREADED COVID forced us to cancel our Easter concert in March 2020 which would have been the last concert our Conductor, Ralph Green, was to lead. We were sorry that we were unable to give him a ‘proper’ send off after 46 years with the choir, 34 of which as Conductor. However, we did manage to see him again as he generously stepped in to take our rehearsals in September 2021 leading up to our planned Christmas concert and outdoor sings so we could say our ‘goodbyes’ and thank him for all his help, friendship and good times over his years with the Choir.
Yet again we had to cancel our concert at Christmas. How all of our best laid plans have been turned upside down in the previous two years.
But we are now pleased to announce that we have appointed a new Musical Director, Georgina Hulse.
Georgina began singing at the age of nine, as a chorister at Sheffield Cathedral. During her time with the Cathedral choir, she participated in their many tours across the UK, Europe and the United States and on numerous broadcasts and recordings. She went on to read music at the University of Manchester, where she studied singing with Richard Strivens and Katherine Moore. Whilst at university Georgina conducted the Catholic Chaplaincy Choir. Since leaving university, she has taught singing privately, and in 2017 was appointed to the position of Chorister Tutor at St John’s Church, Ranmoor. She has run sight reading workshops for The Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus as well as taking sectionals and conducting members of the choir in elective performances. She has run numerous vocal workshops in collaboration with Sheffield Manor Parish Music and in 2017 was the musical director for an amateur production of The Geisha as part of the Harrogate International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.
